Getting around in this program: The First "Main" screen allows you to choose how to access the information about the 266 world entities. 7 choices: ¥ (1) Photographs. View 220+ photographs from around the world. See the countries up close! Play a slide show of all the images (click the slide show button) or select the image by name (scroll the list of images and click on the text to view). ¥ (2) Maps/Flags. Access regional maps, detailed country maps, or flags for each country. View a slide show of the flags, or scroll and click the list of countries. ¥ (3) Charts. See comparison charts and rankings of all 266 countries for 23 statistics compiled by the CIA. Click the slide show button to see them all or click on the statistic text to view and inspect individual rankings. ¥ (4) Travel Topics. Get detailed information compiled by the State Department on 31 special topics and the activities of 39 terror groups. ¥ (5) Search. Access any one of the 266 countries directly, search for a country, search all the text for a search string. (Macintosh only: switch out to TextWare rapid search and retrieval.) ¥ (6) Help. Provides tips and techniques for using this program. ¥ (7) Search the world geographically by clicking on one of the 7 continents on the Main screen. This has each country's geographic location, size etc. in relation to its neighbors and allows access that country's text description as compiled by the CIA and State department information, as well as its Map and Flag, and Photographs (if available). At the bottom of each screen (except main) is standard set of options, including a way of getting back to the main screen. Tips and Techniques: How do I find something in this program: (searching for specific information) How to do a general search: From "Main" press the "Search" button, now press the button "Global Search" enter the text you want to search for and go from there. An example would be that you know "Mugabe" is the leader of some country -- but you don't know which one. Search for Mugabe to find out! How to do a specific search: - You want to know the ranking of Burkina's death rate in the world. Select "Charts" from "Main", click on "Death rate" in the list. Now click on the "Find within Card" button and type Burkina. The High to Low list will highlight and scroll down to the entry if Burkina is ranked. - You want to know the date that Kazakhstan was established as a country. From "Main": click on the "Search" , now click on "Global Search" and enter Kazakhstan. Now click on the "Find within Card" button and type Independence The text will scroll down to reveal the independence date for Kazakhstan. Using the "Go Back" button for repeated accessing of information from the same screen. Some examples: From the "Main" screen click on a continent such as "Africa", Click on "Southern Africa", now click on a country button. View the information/maps etc. Click "Go Back" to return to "Southern Africa", now click on another country button. From the "Main" screen click on the "Charts" button, now scroll the list of comparison statistics/charts and select one to inspect by clicking on its text. Read the rankings/search/view the charts. Now click on "Go Back" to return to the "Charts" listing. Switch out to TextWare external searches for quicker, more comprehensive search capabilities. This requires more RAM free (up to 2 megabytes additional.) You can access TextWare separately.
